Sarangi Ghar is an initiation born from a long lineage of Sarangi players and the Gandharbha art and tradition. It carries the warmth of Sarangi playing and the spirit of innovation in both performance and craftsmanship. Rooted in cultural significance, it strives to preserve tradition while nurturing collaboration and creativity. Its purpose is to evoke oneness through folk music, celebrate Nepal’s diverse cultural tapestry, and uplift the nation’s identity through the power of heritage and sound.

Hailing from the centuries old Gandharba musical tradition of Nepal, Shyam Nepali has enjoyed an almost 30 year long career bringing the sounds of the Sarangi to audiences around the world. Shyam has filled a very unique and important role in the Sarangi tradition of Nepal, expanding on the work of his Grandfather, Magar Gaine, and his father, Ram Sharan Nepali, legendary Sarangi players who broke new ground on the world of Sarangi playing, with their technical and artistic innovations to the instrument. Shyam’s son, Prince Nepali, is continuing the tradition of innovation and virtuosity in this beautiful tradition.

Founder-Sarangi Ghar

Born into the Gandharba folk music tradition of Nepal, Prince Nepali is the fourth generation in his family to play the sarangi — a unique bowed instrument from Nepal. He began playing music at the age of four with his father, renowned sarangi player Shyam Nepali, and quickly developed a style of his own. Prince has brought the sarangi to many different styles of music including jazz, irish fiddling, folk music from Azerbaijan, and accompanying Nepali-Indian singer-songwriters. He performs regularly with internationally known artists such as Bipul Chettri, Ani Choying Drolma (UNICEF National Ambassador) and Deepak Bajracharaya. He has performed on stages worldwide including in London, Australia,China, Mongolia, Kazakhstan, Japan and many more.
